EBRAINS AISBL announced as new coordinator of the Human Brain Project
12 March 2021
EBRAINS AISBL (Brussels, Belgium) has just been announced as the new coordinator of the Human Brain Project (HBP), one of the three EU Future and Emerging Technology Flagships, taking over the role from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (Geneva, Switzerland).
The HBP has created EBRAINS, a novel research infrastructure which enables seamless collaboration between scientists and technology experts to advance the fields of neuroscience, computing, and brain-related medicine. The change of coordination has been planned for a number of years and reflects the wish of the HBP leadership to build EBRAINS as an important hub of globally relevant brain research.
Paweł Świeboda, CEO of EBRAINS AISBL and Director General of the Human Brain Project, has expressed his gratitude to EPFL for successfully managing the project coordination since its very beginning. He has stressed that the transition to a Brussels-based organisation underlines the role EBRAINS aims to play in the future European research agenda.
He said "The change of coordination of the Human Brain Project is part of its natural evolution. It is more than ensuring its legacy, it is about putting EBRAINS at the centre of European brain research."
