We are saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Yves Fregnac.

Prof. Yves Fregnac was an initial member of the Human Brain Project in the Subproject on Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience. He was an outstanding scientist, deep thinker and critical mind, who constantly challenged us to focus on the fundamentals and influenced our efforts with the progressive development of the HBP. 

Yves Fregnac will be remembered for his significant contributions to neuroscience and national and European scientific policy making. Several longtime collaborations with members of the project had preceded the HBP, such as the FACETS and BrainScaleS project, and the collegial discussion never stopped until the last days, including at scientific meetings just recently. 

Our thoughts are with Katherine, his family and friends.
