Karlheinz Meier @ TEDx Aachen: "Computers and Brains – A fascinating Liaison"
Modern Computers perform 1000 Billion or more calculations in a second with perfect precision and reliability.
They are an indispensable tool for business, science and administration. Our brain acquires knowledge about our physical world through learning and development. It extracts useful findings from complex noisy information and makes predictions that guide our free will.
Both systems process information. Is there common ground ? Can we use computers to gain a better understanding of our brains ? Can we conversely use our limited knowledge of the brain to construct different computers ? The lectures will discuss those questions in view of recent research achievements in neuroscience, machine learning and computer architecture design.
