EBRAINS Infrastructure Training Event
Young Researchers using EBRAINS for tomorrow's scientific challenges
18–19 July 2022 | Virtual Event
About
EBRAINS is a European digital research infrastructure for neuroscience that allows scientists to investigate different aspects of the brain at various scales by means of a huge variety of intertwined tools. The tools allow the exploration of data, creation of brain models, simulation and emulation of brain behaviour and subsequent, multifarious analysis. Thereby emerging computational limitations are addressed by enabling access to high-performance computing or brain-inspired computing technologies.
Thus, EBRAINS provides a variety of tools to build scientific workflows including: obtaining data from Knowledge Graph and Brain Atlas; using them in simulations, analyses, and visualisation; if needed, using EBRAINS resources such as high-performance computing or neuromorphic hardware; and sharing your findings and promoting them with the community.
Considering the huge variety of tools and the broad scope they address, this workshop ‘fills two needs with one deed’. 'Newbies' will see what kinds of tools EBRAINS provides and how to use them in an interwoven, consistent fashion creating an EBRAINS workflow. Students who have used EBRAINS tools already will have the opportunity to present their work and describe their EBRAINS workflow. Last but not least, we would also like to invite all participants to contribute their EBRAINS workflows to a whitepaper, which we will write afterwards including the results and discussions obtained from the workshop and for which they will become co-authors.
Registration
Registration is closed.
Workshop structure
The first part of the workshop will provide an overview of EBRAINS tools and services. As a result, you'll know what kind of EBRAINS tools could be useful for your research. Our focus in this part will be on the services you indicated in your workshop registration form as being of interest to you.
Next, we will show you the general approach to creating an EBRAINS workflow. Here, we will also show you the benefits of EBRAINS in this regard and introduce you to tools that help ensure that your workflow adheres to FAIR principles.
Additionally, we will have student presentations. For this purpose, we invite students at all levels to share their experiences and workflows by indicating their interest on the registration form. We would like to hear about your work even if it has not yet been completed, as the focus will not be on the results but rather on the inherent workflow. The presentations will be followed by discussions on how to incorporate the different working steps into an EBRAINS workflow.
During this workshop, we will have specific slots for discussion and questions. Thus, upon completion of the course, you will be able to plan and implement your EBRAINS workflows, implying the ability to get support if required. Additionally, as we have mentioned before, we would be delighted to publish your work in a whitepaper.
